Why I Write Historical Fiction
I have always loved great stories, especially the stories found in Scripture. The Bible contains accounts of faith, courage, sacrifice, failure, redemption, and God's relentless pursuit of His people. These are not merely ancient stories; they are God's story, unfolding through real men and women whose lives were transformed by His purposes.
Biblical historical fiction allows me to step into the spaces between the verses and imagine what life may have been like for those who witnessed some of history's most extraordinary events. What did Noah's neighbors think as the Ark took shape? What was it like to grow up in the shadow of Samuel's prophetic schools and witness the rise and fall of kings? These questions inspire me as I write.
At the heart of my novels is a profound love for redemption stories. Scripture is filled with them. God delights in rescuing the broken, restoring the lost, and accomplishing His purposes through imperfect people. That theme resonates deeply with me because redemption is not merely a biblical concept—it is my own story as well. The God who transformed lives in biblical times continues to transform lives today.
More than anything, I hope my novels help readers experience the wonder of God's story through fresh eyes and discover anew the faithfulness of the God who stands behind every page of Scripture.
Faith and Story
My faith shapes everything I write. While my novels are works of fiction, they are grounded in the conviction that the events recorded in Scripture are true and that God actively worked in history through real people facing real struggles.
I am drawn to characters who wrestle with doubt, ambition, fear, loyalty, and faith because those struggles are timeless. Whether a merchant confronting Noah's warnings before the Flood or a young man caught in the political intrigue surrounding Saul and David, the deepest questions remain the same: Will we trust God? Will we follow Him when the cost is high? Will we recognize His hand at work in our lives?
These questions are as relevant today as they were thousands of years ago.
Research and Historical Authenticity
One of the greatest joys of writing biblical historical fiction is the research.
I have a lifelong fascination with ancient history, archaeology, historical documents, and the cultures that surrounded the biblical world. I love exploring ancient texts, studying historical records, examining archaeological discoveries, and walking through museum exhibits that shed light on the people and places of Scripture.
Research is not simply background work for me—it is part of the adventure. Every inscription, artifact, excavation report, and ancient document offers another glimpse into the world in which biblical events unfolded.
While imagination brings a story to life, careful research helps ground it in historical reality. My goal is to create novels that feel authentic to the cultures, customs, geography, and historical setting of the biblical world while remaining faithful to the truths of Scripture.
The result is fiction rooted in history, inspired by faith, and driven by a desire to help readers experience the Bible's world with greater depth, clarity, and wonder.
